Shiny Caterpie March 18, 2006 Male 167:10, Viridian Forest at Level 5 Caught in a Luxuy Ball after two throws in a chance encounter.
Shiny Caterpie was not something I was looking for. Prior to the encounter, I actually had contemplated how sweet it would be to have a shiny Butterfree, but the foray in Viridian Forest was with the intent of giving someone HP EVs and maybe finding a modest Pikachu. My LiveJournal entry claims it was a 2 AM capture, but if I remember correctly it was a 1:15-1:30 sighting, and the 2:00 AM was probably just to go along with that one technosong that has 2 o clock in the morning (or something along the lines) in its lyrics. Of note, 167:10 adds up to 15, or one of the numbers on LOST.

Well there is a certain level of awesome that comes from a Caterpie all on it own, evolving the critter to a Shiny Metapod, and ultimately a greeneyed Butterfree is simply too much to pass up on.
Shiny Butterfree Level 100 Mild@ None Thief/Psychic/Silver Wind/Sleep Powder > > HP 266 ATK 118 DEF 127 SP.ATK 237 SP.DEF 183 SPD 200 To quote Smogon, "one of the worst Pokemon in the game..If you use Butterfree, you have a lot of guts, or you're just an idiot.". To demonstrate some of my amazing lurking skills on the Smogon forums, that last bit allegedly made some little girl cry or something. Butterfree was the first Pokémon where I actually bothered to EV train. Still, with my poor comprehension of that stuff, I can't tell if this is even a good Butterfree or not. Oxymoron, yes, but still.
As much as I love my Shiny Butterfree, it's honestly not good for much aside from being a permanent part of my in-game party to Compoundeyes-Sleep Powder any Shinies, as well as providing Thief for Mushrooms/Moon Stones/etc. There's also the fact Butterfree has no egg moves, so I didn't lose much by encountering it in the wild as opposed to as a hatched egg. I never checked its IVs at any time, and didn't care to.
Sleep Powder is there because that's what a Butterfree is for, along with Psychic, and Thief for a good in-game for reasons mentioned. The only move I wonder about is Silver Wind, which is there because a lucky Pokémon would hopefully get some luck-hax and get the boost, making its stats at least decent. Shiny Butterfree is probably the best thing I could've had as an intro to Shinies and EVs, and just like Ash in the anime, I'd never trade my Butterfree.
Oh, and since it applies, Shiny Butterfree in the anime was Shiny. And hell if I'm going to get into the logic and semantics of it here.
Shiny Porygon May 10, 2006 Genderless 193:46, Celadon Casino at Level 18 In an obligatory Pokéball after c. 1000 soft-resets. Shiny Porygon was one I wanted even in Johto. After the amazing cult status Porygon has for having a banned anime episode over a bunch of seizures, and the fact he was part of my original troupe of favourite Pokémon (Haunter, Slowbro, Porygon) made him entirely irresistable. There was also the fact that just like Butterfree, he too was devoid of egg moves, so no trouble could arise from being unable to make a decent moveset later on. I had tried already in October of 2005, and then again in May of 2006. Finally getting Porygon was an amazing thing, and like Caterpie, appeared at a time I should have been sleeping. Curiously once more, the game time of 1+9+3+4+6 provides 23, another number from LOST (admittedly I saved at precisely that time so it'd come up that way, but who cares!)
I originally was unsure of whether or not to evolve Porygon since I'm not entirely a fan of Porygon2, but then I got a holographic Porygon2 from Unseen Forces along with the realization I'd be passing up on a Boltbeamer, so one Upgrade later...
Shiny Porygon2 Level 100 Lonely@ Leftovers Recover/Ice Beam/Tri Attack/Thunderbolt > HP 344 ATK 202 DEF 196 SP.ATK 242 SP.DEF 216 SPD 141 I cannot tell what occured here. I know the only good IV he had was in Defense, but it's almost like I stole all of his EVs or something, which I didn't. I focused them in HP and split the rest in Attack and Sp. Atk, and it seems only HP came the better out of all of it. I haven't tried him out yet in Colosseum or XD, but in game I remember training him when his HP was maxed, and with Recover and that high HP it made up for his shortcomings.
Recover has its benefits and drawbacks when its on a slower Pokémon. Boltbeam are self explanatory, though I suppose I need to explain Tri Attack. I'm just a Tri Attack whore since I seem to have a lot of luck with Freezes from it. Which is cool considering the Icy appearance of the wielder of the attack. Just another case of a lucky Pokémon depending on Luck Hax. They should get a Lucky Punch item for Alt. Color Pokémon, actually. But then everyone would whine, I suppose. I really think the IVs are to blame here, but he's still something I'm fond of by a lot.
Like Butterfree, I also learned another lesson EV training this guy-- 252HP/129ATK/129SP.ATK apparently doesn't work on sweepers. Apparently. And if anyone else has a level 100 Porygon2, no matter how you trained it EV or not, talk to me by e-mail me or otherwise, same with the Butterfree, because I like to compare stats.

Mewtwo finally hit level one-hundred. Lugia is a bit behind at 94 or so, but because he's a pain, I'm going to Rare Candy him to finish him off.
Mewtwo's a tricky guy. With a special attack of 360something, he currently holds my highest stat of any of my Pokémon (pending Ho-Oh once I finally check Colosseum for posterity), which is crazy because the Lonely nature does not benefit him, nor did I max out his special attack stat. Nope. I actually maxed out speed (which came out at 350, (lousy EVs)) and split the rest between Attack and Special Attack for a Shadow Ball Mewtwo. Neither defenses broke 200, so I have Recover instead of Calm Mind for the following; Psychic/Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Recover. I always knew Mewtwo was frikking insane, but having not really messed with one since RBY (Amnesia Mewtwo, anyone?) it never occured to me how awesome.
Physical Mewtwo a total success, next game is going to be an attempt at a absolute godly-stats Modest Mewtwo, and the last game reset will be for a shiny Mewtwo.
Lugia has been my undoing. I massively overestimated his offensive stats, but then, catching a Jolly Lugia makes one have crazy ideas. Aeroblast/Earthquake/Ancientpower/Psycho Boost. Sure, he's still a frikking amazing special sponge, and he'll turn out fine with Choice Band, but when I was training him it was annoying because most CPs use physical as opposed to special if you've ever noticed, which is basically how to work around his spongyness if one maxed out Attack and then randomly threw in stats in speed, defenses, and HP. First Lugia has been an interesting lesson about proper use of EVs just as Porygon2 was. Next Lugia is gonna be a standard moveset with standard everything, though I'm probably just gonna go for a shiny if my patience doesn't run out (considering GCN SRing is longer than GBA SRing, it probably will).
